So, I went there was this huge art festival downtown, but I missed most of it. However, I did get to go to the art museum, which featured the ladder sculpture, and this new exhibit featuring photos from people in the Roanoke Valley. I was looking at the wall and realized that one of my photos had been selected out of the hundreds that had been sent in! See the one with the street light, and looking up is a lit up window? Yep, that's mine!

This ladder exhibit was built with donated ladders from all across the valley. My father entered one in with a bell hung on the ladder and labeled it "ring rung." That clever man.

We played a show the other night, and there ended up being only about ten people in the place. I guess for some people this could be a downer, but I loved it. It made for a more relaxed setting, with joking and chatting in between songs, and switching back and forth between the two sets.

Year after year, we have a cast party at the same household after productions. Each time I visit, I am more and more amazed with this man's collection of things from movies. He makes many of the models himself, but the rest he has collected all of his life. Also, it is all kept in a secret room, which is behind a bookcase in the house. How neat is that?

Today was delightful. Van Gogh is one of my favorite artists, and finally, I can say that I have seen one of his paintings in person. I enjoyed this exhibit very much.

I never thought I would see something like this in person. I thought Dickens of a Christmas would be lame this year with the Market Building renovations, but hey, I think I can forgive Downtown Roanoke, because someone hired an ice sculptor this year.

I went back to that bookstore, and I found the copy of the Fountainhead that I had originally wanted to send to you in the mail. I am sorry that I lost it the first time I stumbled upon it.

a little piece of heaven

We found our very own perfect little corner of the universe. We sat on the floor with piles of books, trying to figure out what we wanted. They literally were the toughest decisions I have had to make for a while. There were so many worn, old covers, and there was the smell of aged novels all around. One that I had gotten even had a library card in the back that had been stamped back to 1977 as the last time it had been checked out. This was a million times better than any old Barnes and Noble.

july first and fourth

#1. On the first, I went to the park downtown, where there was an event that featured live music, and the chance to dance out in the nice weather. Sadly, I sat alone on a blanket, but it was nice watching everyone joyfully dance around. It made me smile seeing the movement and silly people.
#2. Sometime between the first and fourth of July, I noticed how lovely the butterfly bushes were when the sun was rising.
#3 & #4. The fourth was probably the best fourth of July I have had in a long time. A few things that we did included sparklers, and setting off small bottle rockets and other fireworks in the backyard. Those were the activities that we did later in the evening, but, they were probably the best part of it with the exception of the grand finale at the fireworks that we saw down by the river.

Today my father and I visited a small town that's nearby. We bought some old Dixieland music/Glen Miller Orchestra records, and chocolate covered ginger. When walking around, we found an old church and its cemetery. It was interesting looking at old tombstones from the 1800s, and how the decaying church had its chimney propped up with a piece of wood. I also liked how there were small flowers in the grassy fields around it.

The ride home was peaceful, and I managed to get a photo of a stranger wondering around as the skies turned gray. It was a nice day, today.

I spent hours making cards for my friends that were graduating. I was so proud of them when they were walking across the stage, but I am really going to miss them being around next year.

Walking out of the rehearsal, I felt warm (not only from the weather that we have been having, but I was happy). That feeling made the whole day a little better.

-played dart and football throwing games winning a cowboy, some indians, and some type of sheep/buffalo looking animal that we called a water buffalo
-made friends with little boys whom we gave our toys to

-saw a man get stuck in the netting of a moonbounce
-watched kiddies slide and run around
